More than 4,000 new cases of influenza were confirmed across the country this week. The CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 2.6 million cases of the flu. More than 23,000 people have been hospitalized and 1,300 have lost their lives to the illness. At least ten children are among those who have died, as numbers of laboratory-confirmed cases continue to rise. The CDC reported that 11.3% of all clinical laboratory tests for the virus during the week ending Saturday were positive. Noting that the infection rate is up from 10.2% the previous week. The CDC noted that 99% of influenza viruses are susceptible to the four FDA-approved influenza antiviral medications.

A new tool could make it easier to predict whether early-stage triple-negative breast cancer will return following chemotherapy. In a new study, researchers used a liquid biopsy called FoundationOne Liquid to test for reoccurrence of the cancer. FoundationOne Liquid uses a blood test to detect circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). ctDNA values are visible in blood plasma. In studies, researchers were able to detect ctDNA in 63%, of the study participants.
