Marine Corps veteran Bolivar Vilchez was terrified as he helped his wife deliver their daughter on the side of a Southern California freeway. The Orange County Register reports that 29-year-old Sandra Vilchez of Riverside County was on the way to her mother's home early Saturday when she delivered baby Savannah.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped today to its lowest amount since Feb. 14, decreasing seven-tenths of a cent to $3.757. The average price has decreased 13 consecutive days and 69 of the past 75, dropping 42.2 cents, including six-tenths of a cent on Friday.

Seven years after his indictment, former Hesperia Mayor Tad Theron Honeycutt maintains that he's innocent of numerous felony charges of grand theft and embezzlement of public funds, and says fighting the criminal case has left him without a dollar to his name. Honeycutt was director of business development for Educational Administrative Services Corporation, a private management company which was responsible for formerly one of the largest and fastest-growing charter school operations in California.

Hurricane Odile raked the Baja California Peninsula with strong winds and heavy rains early Monday as locals and tourists in the resort area of Los Cabos began to emerge from shelters and assess the damage. The extent of Odile's impact was still not clear before daybreak, but the storm severely damaged hotel lobbies and facades, shattered windows and left streets full of debris.

A junior at Irvine High School, Koga, 15, has already racked up a lengthy list of musical accomplishments, including winning last year's Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition for cello.
