A Tustin company has received a patent to produce nuclear medicine to treat and diagnose cancer, heart and thyroid disease. Magneto-Inertial Fusion Technologies Inc., founded six years ago by UC Irvine scientists, will use fusion to produce an isotope called technetium-99, which is used in radiation therapy and diagnostic scans, according to the Orange County Register .

A special fitness class will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Montanoso Recreation Center to raise money for the family of Matthew Melo. Matthew was one of five teens killed in a fiery car crash on the I-5 freeway in Irvine.
